Last Saturday, a single car crash in Whitley County killed two Williamsburg residents. Police say both of the victims were in their mid-20s.
According to WKYT.com, this accident happened at 1:30PM on April 7, 2018 on KY 1064 just three miles away from Woodbine, Kentucky. Allegedly, the driver slid off the road and hit a nearby tree. Tragically, both the driver and a passenger were killed on impact.
State police are still investigating the cause of this fatal accident. As a part of their investigation, police have ordered a toxicology report on the driver. Autopsies of the passenger, however, will not be performed.

Car Passengers: Know Your Rights

In single-car crashes, the driver of the vehicle is almost always at fault for a passenger’s injuries and/or passenger fatalities. If you’ve been injured as a passenger in a single car crash, you should know that it’s your legal right to file a liability claim against the driver of the vehicle.
In Kentucky, all drivers are required to have $10,000 in personal injury protection insurance that can be paid no matter who is at fault for the crash. Passengers can file a lawsuit for personal injuries so long as medical bills incurred from the crash totaled over $1,000 and the passenger suffered a permanent disfigurement, bone fracture, and loss of motion.
So long as the passenger can prove s/he meets the criteria for a personal injury lawsuit, a Kentucky Car Accident Lawyer can help the claimant receive compensation for a wide variety of damages. Just a few damages you could get financial compensation for include medical bills, lost earnings from work, and pain & suffering fees.
Please note, however, that Kentucky has a short window of time for passengers to send in their personal injury claims. You’re only allowed one year after the car accident to put your lawsuit through. This is a drastically shorter window of time than many other states.
