How Rain Affects Traffic Safety
It’s estimated that about 7,000 Americans die each year in car crashes during some form of inclement weather. A surprising study put together by the Auto Insurance Center revealed that rainy weather is the most common factor behind these fatal crashes. Although snow, fog, and ice also present significant risks, researchers noted that rain-related accidents were far more common across the USA, hence their higher fatality rate.
There are two major safety risks associated with rainy weather: slippery roads and impaired visibility. Safety experts say roads that haven’t been rained on in a few days will be slicker than average due to the additional oil residue.
Drivers should watch their speed in rainy conditions, especially during the first 10 minutes of rainfall. During this time, it’s far more likely for your vehicle to “hydroplane,” which basically means your tires lose traction with the ground. The best ways to prevent hydroplaning include avoiding puddles, ensuring your tires are fully inflated, and avoiding sudden turns.
Do I need a Lawyer after a Rain Related Accident?
Drivers should compensate for the current road conditions. The weather does not cause accidents, people do. And after those accidents, insurers are likely to attempt to place blame anywhere possible to get out of paying you for your injuries. Remember, insurers have a vested interest in getting you to settle for as little as possible. You need a compassionate lawyer by your side who can help you understand your legal rights and fight for the damages you deserve.
