State police say a rollover car accident in Louisville this Friday injured five people. Although injuries were severe in some cases, reporters say all of the crash victims are expected to make a full recovery.

According to WMC Action News 5, this crash took place at 9:20AM on March 23rd. First responders say they believe one car was traveling south on Second Street when it struck another car going west on Muhammad Ali Boulevard. The impact of this crash apparently caused the second car to rollover.

As mentioned above, five people were injured in this crash. One of these victims was a pedestrian and the rest were in either of the two vehicles. All five of these victims were immediately transported to a local hospital where they remain under intensive care.

As of today, police are still investigating the cause of this incident.

Safety Information On Rollover Accidents

Recent statistics show that at least 7,200 Americans lose their lives every year in rollover accidents. Perhaps unsurprisingly, drivers of vehicles involved in rollovers were most at risk of suffering severe injuries or death.

Both trucks and SUVs are at an elevated risk of rolling over when involved in a crash. This might come as a shock to some SUV owners who often purchase these models because of their supposed “safety benefits.” The truth is, however, that it’s far more dangerous to drive at fast speeds in an SUV as opposed to a standard vehicle.

Since SUVs are so top-heavy, it’s easier for gravity to pull the vehicle onto its side in the event of an accident. Indeed, traffic data in the USA clearly shows that about 90 percent of SUV rollovers only involve one car. Sadly, many owners of SUVs suffer severe trauma to their brains in a rollover crash because of the roof caving in on them.

The easiest way to prevent yourself from becoming a fatality in a rollover accident is to wear your safety belt at all times. Safety experts also note that cars involved in a rollover crash were often driving well above the posted speed limit. So, if you want to cut your risk of being involved in a rollover, always travel at the posted speed limit and cut your speed in half when traveling in hazardous weather conditions.
