A two-car crash in Owensboro sent four people to the hospital.

According to SurfKY News, this accident occurred at the intersection of US 60 Bypass and Frederica Street at 2PM on April 24, 2018. Allegedly, the driver of a 2007 Toyota Avalon traveling south on Frederica Street ran through a red light and slammed into a 2013 Ford Fusion’s driver’s side door. At the time of the crash, the Ford Fusion was turning north from US 60 Bypass onto Frederica Street.

Safety crews immediately transported the two drivers and two young passengers in the Ford Fusion to a local hospital. Thankfully, everyone involved in this crash is expected to make a full recovery.

The Kentucky State Police are still investigating the cause of this accident. Anyone who has information about this crash is urged to call the police at this toll-free number (800) 222-5555.

How Often Do People Run Red Lights?

Unfortunately, many motorists ignore the most basic of traffic safety laws: stop at a red light. Even though every driver knows this rule by heart, the number of car crashes caused by running a red light only seems to increase year on year.

Recent studies suggest that at any given intersection at least three cars will run through a red light every hour. Even though survey data shows the vast majority of Americans think running red lights is “unacceptable,” about 35 percent of respondents admitted to driving through a red light within the past 30 days!

To help reduce the number of red light runners, many cities have installed cameras that can capture HD images of speeding motorists. Anyone who passes through one of these cameras when a red light is showing will get a not-so-pleasant ticket in the mail from law enforcement soon afterward.
