A two-car crash in Lexington sent two drivers to the hospital on July 23, 2018.

According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, this crash occurred after 12:00PM on New Circle Road. Allegedly, a van rear-ended a car on the Nicholasville Road exit ramp. The force of this crash was so great that it actually caused the car to flip in the air.

When first-responders arrived on the scene, they transported both the van and car drivers to local hospitals. Doctors expect both crash victims will survive their injuries.

Local police are still investigating the cause of this crash.

Rear-End Collisions: Common, But Easily Preventable

Rear-end crashes are one of the most common types of traffic collisions. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) discovered that 28 percent of all crashes are rear-end collisions. It’s also been estimated that about 6 percent of fatal traffic accidents are rear-end crashes.

One of the easiest ways people can prevent rear-end collisions is to routinely check their brake lights. It’s also a good idea never to speed up when traveling towards a red traffic light or a stop sign. Drivers should get in the habit of slowing down gradually rather than braking hard.

Although rear-end collisions aren’t usually fatal, they often result in serious and sometimes permanent injuries. It’s not uncommon for people involved in rear-end crashes to suffer from serious medical conditions like whiplash, lower back injuries, and bone fractures. Anyone involved in a rear-end collision should get in touch with an experienced Lexington car accident lawyer to ensure they’re getting the full medical compensation they deserve.
