Rural roads are the most dangerous in the nation according to a study from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and head-on collisions are one of the most dangerous types of accidents. This means that motorists driving out in rural Kentucky through towns like Jackson are at a higher than normal risk of getting into a fatal head-on collision.

Jackson KY Head-On Leaves One Dead Another Injured

A Toyota Corolla crossed the centerline of Perry Highway in Jackson on Monday, March 16, 2020, and hit a Ford Focus head-on. According to police, the accident pinned both drivers in their cars, and they had to wait to be freed by EMS workers.

The driver of the Toyota was transported to the hospital by ambulance where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the Ford was airlifted to a different hospital and was listed in critical condition.

Injuries in Rural Head-On Collisions

A head-on collision is one of the most violent and deadly accident types often seriously injuring those fortunate enough to survive. This is because the force of the impact in a head-on collision is compounded by the weight and momentum from both vehicles which then abruptly stop at the impact.

This causes those inside the vehicles to be thrown around inside the vehicle. Some of the most common injuries suffered by victims of a rural head-on collision are:

  • Blunt Force Trauma
  • Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Broken Arms/Legs
  • Chest Compressions
  • Blunt Force Trauma
  • Organ Damage
  • Internal Injuries/Bleeding
  • Airbag injuries
