DUI Stats And Laws In Kentucky
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 2,041 Kentucky drivers lost their lives in DUI accidents between 2003 and 2012. To try and combat these troubling numbers, Kentucky law enforcement has strict DUI laws in place that every driver should know about.
Under Kentucky state law, it’s illegal for anyone over 21-years-old to drive with a blood alcohol content (BAC) of above 0.08 percent. If you’re under 21, then you can’t drive with a BAC of over 0.02 percent. All offenses take 10 years to clear and involve varying lengths of licenses suspension as well as mandatory alcohol abuse treatment classes.
It’s important to keep in mind that DUI doesn’t just refer to alcohol. Any substance that impairs a person’s reaction time behind the wheel could lead to a DUI accident. Besides alcohol, a few other major contributors to DUI accidents across the USA include marijuana as well as nonprescription & prescription medication. It’s important to discuss your driving habits and the potential side effects of all medications and supplements with your doctor.
