When there’s a car that tries to pass you (or you try to pass somebody), it can be a dangerous situation. But it’s even more dangerous on certain parts of the road–like intersections on a state highway. It’s not so much about the amount of traffic in these places as it is the timing. One wrong move can result in pretty serious collisions, and that’s exactly what happened on Monday, June 30, 2025 according to a story from LEX 18.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said that one person was killed and four others were injured in a two-car accident at the intersection of West KY Highway 90 and KY Highway 1456 around 7:00 p.m. An initial investigation found that a 59-year-old man driving a pickup truck tried to pass a car in front of him as he was traveling west along Route 90.
At that point, he collided with another pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of that pickup truck, along with three passengers (two of which were children) were injured in the collision. The man in the other truck was pronounced dead on the scene by the Wayne County Coroner. Wayne County EMS treated the two adults and two children that survived before taking them to Wayne County Hospital and Lake Cumberland Regional for further treatment. Once there, two were flown to another hospital. The Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the accident.
What Do I Need to Do If I’m Injured in a Car Accident on Highway 90?
Stories like the one above are, unfortunately, quite common throughout Kentucky. Although roads like Highway 90 are slower in terms of traffic, there’s still the chance that a situation like the one above results in a car accident that leaves you injured–or worse. At that point, it’s about taking the right steps for a claim. Here’s what you should try to do:
- Call 911 for help right away.
- Let EMTs check you out at the scene and get follow-up care at the hospital.
- Ask the 911 operator to send local law enforcement. Depending on where the accident happened, that could be the Kentucky State Police (KSP), county sheriff, or city police.
- Take photos or video if it’s safe.
- Share information with others involved in the accident, as well as any witnesses.
- Just be honest about what happened when you talk about the accident.
- Avoid guessing or exaggerating—your credibility matters, and even small misstatements can backfire.
Staying calm after an accident on a busy highway isn’t easy—especially when you’re in pain or confused. But these first steps help protect your health and your legal rights down the road.
