Certain parts of Madisonville are busier than others, but there’s certain spots that always are–none more than intersections. One intersection—US-431 and Cleaton Road–was the scene of a three-car collision that left two people dead and two more injured on Saturday, December 5, 2025. According to a story from FOX 56, a car driven by a 68-year-old woman ran the stop sign near Cleaton Road, directly into the path of a tractor-trailer and car that were headed through the north-south intersection of US-431 around 11:15 a.m.

The woman and her 64-year-old passenger were pronounced dead at the scene by Kentucky State Police (KSP) deputies and the Muhlenberg County Coroner, while the driver of the tractor-trailer and other car were taken to a local hospital to treat their injuries.

KSP is still investigating the accident. No charges have been filed yet.

What Information Should I Try to Get If the Other Driver Doesn’t Survive the Collision?

When there’s a car accident like the one in the story above, it’s hard to think straight. Yet, when the person that caused the collision doesn’t survive, it makes things even more difficult. But the reality is that you’re still dealing with injuries and need answers. While there’s no chance to get basic details from the driver, there’s still a lot of helpful information that can come from the scene itself:

  • Pictures/videos. You don’t need anything fancy—your phone camera is enough. Get the positions of both cars, damage, skid marks, debris, weather, traffic lights, and anything that shows how things unfolded.
  • Car details. Since you can’t get information directly from the driver, the car becomes the next best source. Note the license plate, make, model, color, etc.
  • Look around for anyone who saw what happened. Witnesses become especially important in cases where the other driver can’t speak for themselves.
  • Rely on the police investigation. Any collision involving fatal injuries usually triggers a more thorough response from police. KSP or local police will put together a more extensive report that usually includes measurements, pictures/videos, and other things you can use.
  • Medical records. In the hours, days, and weeks after, keep track of your medical records. It should start with the ER report, but make sure to also get follow-up reports, therapy notes, and anything else that comes up with your care.

You’re not expected to gather all of this on your own, especially after a traumatic crash. Most people can’t. That’s exactly why our Madisonville car accident lawyers at Kaufman & Stigger can step in when things feel overwhelming.
