Semi-trucks are vital to Kentucky’s economy bringing and sending goods all over the country and back to Kentucky. However, with a vehicle the size and mass of a fully-loaded semi-trailer, there is a substantial risk to other cars out on the roads.

Car Slides Under Semi on I-71

MetroSafe reports that a passenger car and a semi tangled in the northbound lanes of I-71 on Wednesday, March 4, 2020. The accident happened around 10:15 a.m. near the I-265 interchange when a motor vehicle slid under a semi trapping the driver inside the vehicle.

EMS personnel were able to free the victim who was transported to a local hospital. There is no word on his condition, and police are still investigating the accident to find out how it occurred.

Semi-Truck and Passenger Car Accidents

When a semi-truck is full of cargo, it can weigh up to 80,000 lbs, and they are made of steel and other metals and are not very forgiving when coming into contact with smaller vehicles. Because of this, occupants of smaller motor vehicles are at risk just traveling alongside a large truck.

Trucks can’t stop as quickly and they need more room to maneuver. There are large and have many blind spots which can impair their ability to exercise caution to other cars on the road.
