Motorcyclists do their best to avoid every other driver on the road, but even the most careful rider can be forced into an accident by a careless motorist.

Left-turns are a seemingly simple maneuver, but end up being one of the biggest threats to a motorcyclist’s safety on the road.  Left-turn collisions often occur when a distracted motorist is attempting to turn in front of oncoming traffic. Drivers check for oncoming cars, but for whatever reason can miss motorcyclists right in front of them. The driver proceeds with their turn across the oncoming bike’s path, leaving the rider with nowhere to go.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that in one year 42% of fatal motorcycle accidents involved a vehicle making a left-hand turn. These common accidents can leave riders severely hurt and can even claim lives.

Bowling Green Fatal Motorcycle Accident

A man on a motorcycle was struck by two vehicles and killed in Bowling Green on Tuesday afternoon. WBKO-TV reported the collision happened on Broadway Avenue near the intersection of Nutwood Street around 1 pm on August 25, 2020.

Bowling Green Police say the first vehicle turned left in front of the oncoming motorcycle and caused a collision. The 39-yr-old victim from Stanford was ejected from his motorcycle and then thrown into a second vehicle.

The victim was taken to the Medical Center at Bowling Green and was later pronounced dead.

Compensation for Families After a Fatal Motorcycle Accident

A motorcycle accident that ends in a tragedy will be devastating for the family and friends left behind. Family members may face the difficult situation of laying a victim to rest while also struggling with the medical and funeral costs left in the wake of the accident.

The loved ones left behind have legal options to receive aid with the emotional and financial losses resulting from a deadly collision.  Close family members may file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault drivers after losing a relative.

A wrongful death claim can be filed up to a year after the date the victim passed away.  A claim can help a family recover money from insurance companies to help with things like hospital bills and funeral costs.  Filing this lawsuit for damages can even collect money to replace the wages a lost family member would have provided if they had continued working.  The costs of emotional therapy for family members can also be covered.

A representative is allowed to file the wrongful death claim on behalf of the family. This representative can be a spouse or domestic partner, a child of the victim, or in some cases the parents of the victim.  The representative can also be an attorney who files on behalf of close family members.
