It’s incredibly unfortunate to be injured by a dog bite. But the reality is that it can happen anywhere you interact with a dog. That opens the door to bites happening in certain environments, and that’s what happened on Saturday, March 21, 2026 in East Jefferson County.

According to a story from WLKY, three people were injured by two dogs at Shamrock Acres Country Kennel on Reamers Road. When officers from Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) arrived on the scene, they found two dogs attacking multiple people. After continuing to show aggression, the officers were forced to shoot and kill both dogs to stop the attack. The injured people were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Shamrock Acres also released a statement on the incident confirming the attack via Facebook. The statement also noted that two of the people that were attacked were staff members and that they were critically injured. LMPD and Louisville Metro Animal Services are investigating the incident.

Can I File an Injury Claim If I’m Hurt by a Dog Bite at a Kennel?

It’s true that no matter where you are in Louisville, you can be bitten by a dog. That obviously increases if you’re in an environment like a kennel, where there are a lot of different dogs interacting with each other and people they’re not familiar with.

But in terms of your injuries, you’re going to need help. And that’s where the claims process comes in. In Kentucky, the law says that dog owners are “strictly liable” for any injuries their dog leaves you with. That means simply that when you’re bitten by a dog and injured, the owner is responsible.

However, when a kennel is involved, liability extends to them because they were in control of the dog at the time the bite happened.

As the person who was injured in the bite, this clears a major hurdle to filing an injury claim. From here, you can either file:

  • An insurance claim out of court.
  • A personal injury lawsuit.

Filing a claim allows you to get financial support for your injuries that can include things like:

  • Current and future medical expenses
  • Current and future lost income
  • Repair/replacement costs for clothing, phones, glasses, or anything else damaged in the incident
  • Costs related to any scarring/disfigurement
  • Pain and suffering
  • Emotional distress
  • Reduced quality of life

A dog bite at a kennel can catch you completely off guard. But when you’re injured in this type of situation, you still have options that our Louisville dog bite team at Kaufman & Stigger, PLLC can help you with.
