It is with sadness that we share the news that Cara Stigger’s precious mom Sue Wells passed away Sunday night. (August 11, 2024)
Sue’s TV appearances began after she joked that she saw Cara more often on TV and social media than in person. Sue had a terrific spunky wit.
It was six years ago when Sue made her debut on television in a commercial for the law firm Kaufman & Stigger. At 91 years young, Sue was immediately a local star. Because of the tv commercials she would be recognized at the grocery, restaurants, and the doctors’ office.
Sue would tease about going out in disguise and giving autographs to her fans. People often asked Cara if Sue was her “real” mom or just hired for the commercial. Sue was 100% genuine.
Over the last six years Sue was in over eight commercials and helped promote the Kaufman & Stigger scholarship program on WAVE Listens Live.
The Kaufman and Stigger family will miss Sue. We feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to get to know her better and glad we were able to share a little bit of her through our commercials.
Sue lived in Spencer County near the farm where she and her late husband James raised their five children. She was also a grandmother of fifteen, great grandmother of nineteen, and had many others she held dear.
When Cara was young, her family farm grew grain, tobacco, raised cattle and pigs, had a milking dairy, and a large vegetable and fruit garden to feed family and friends. With Sue at the helm, they have remained close with family traditions like the annual Christmas cookie exchange. Sue gave a lot of love in her 97 years, and was rightfully given a lot of love in return.
