When you’re driving in Kentucky, you share the road with a lot of different drivers with a lot of different skill levels. That doesn’t always mean serious accidents, but it can. And that’s exactly what happened recently in Bullitt County according to a story from LEX 18. Kentucky State Police (KSP) deputies responded to a call for a two-vehicle collision at KY 44 East and Watergate Drive around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
KSP says that the juvenile driver of a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck was headed west on KY 44 when the passenger side of the truck dropped off a steep shoulder of the road. As the driver overcorrected, they swerved into the eastbound lane and collided with a Ford Escape driven by a 27-year-old woman. The Escape continued down an embankment and flipped over onto its roof.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. The juvenile driving the Tacoma was not injured in the collision.

Who Do I File a Claim Against When a Juvenile Driver is Involved in a Car Accident?
Unfortunately, accidents like the story above are pretty common throughout Kentucky. And generally, you still have the same right to file a claim when you’re involved in one of these accidents. Just because a juvenile is the other driver doesn’t change that.
But here’s where things usually get a little more complicated. Most juveniles aren’t driving a car they own. Rather, it’s owned by their parents or some other adult that let them drive. That distinction matters.
Once they have a valid driver’s license, the juvenile is still responsible when they cause an but whoever owns the vehicle could also share some responsibility.
That means you’re going to be filing your claim against the:
- The juvenile’s car insurance policy.
- The car owner’s policy.
- Policies of any other drivers that were involved.
Trying to untangle all this is important, but it’s not something you have to do by yourself. Our Kentucky car accident lawyers at Kaufman & Stigger, PLLC will be there to help you.
