Whenever there’s a car accident in Hardin County or anywhere else in Kentucky, by far the worst result is the loss of life. While this is possible in any car accident, there are certain types of accidents where this is unfortunately more common. And one of the most frequent kinds of car accidents where they happen is a head-on collision.
According to a story from WAVE, a woman was killed and three others were injured in an early morning head-on collision in Hardin County. Officials from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident scene, which took place on Tuesday, February 27, 2024. After an initial investigation, Sheriff’s deputies determined that the woman crossed the centerline of North Pleasant Hill Road in her Ford Focus and collided head-on with a Kia. The woman that was driving the Ford Focus was pronounced dead at the scene. Her two children and the driver of the Kia survived, but were transported to Baptist Hospital with injuries.
Common Injuries in Head-On Collisions
It’s not difficult to see why head-on collisions are so damaging. Most of the time, they involve incidents like the one above, where two cars collide head-on moving at high speeds. This places all of the impact and damage on the front of the vehicle, where you happen to be sitting. Still, there’s a variety of different injuries that can result in these types of accidents:
- Organ damage – Internal organ damage involves injuries to your vital organs like the heart, lungs, liver, or kidneys. These injuries can be life-threatening and may need urgent medical treatment, including surgery.
- Brain injuries – Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) happen when a sudden trauma harms the brain. They can range from mild concussions to severe brain damage, causing problems with thinking, movement, and behavior.
- Fractures and broken bones – Broken bones, or fractures, are common in head-on collisions due to the force on the body during a collision. Fractures can vary in severity, from simple ones that heal relatively quickly to complex ones needing surgery and extensive therapy.
- Spinal injuries – Paralysis or spinal cord injuries occur when the spinal cord is harmed, leading to loss of movement or sensation below the injury. These injuries can cause partial or complete paralysis, affecting mobility and independence.
Often, these injuries happen because drivers are careless, like when they speed, drive recklessly, get distracted, or are drunk or on drugs. If you can show that the other driver caused the crash by not being careful enough, you might be able to make them pay for your injuries. This means collecting proof like witness accounts, police reports, and medical records. Whenever you find yourself in one of these accidents, you need to take every available option to recover, and the legal process is a great way to do that.
