It’s rare that an accident in Lexington that involves more than one vehicle doesn’t result in serious injuries. This is even more rare if one of the vehicles is a semi-truck. But luckily, that’s exactly what happened on Monday, May 13, 2024 on New Circle Road in Lexington.
According to a story from LEX 18, there was a four-vehicle crash involving three cars and one semi-truck carrying jet fuel on the inner loop of New Circle Road. The Lexington Police Department (LPD) responded to the call around 1:15 p.m., where investigators say the first car failed to stop at a red light. It then collided with two other cars, pushing one into oncoming traffic. That car was hit by a semi-truck carrying jet fuel, although police say there were no leaks.
Also on the scene was the Lexington Fire Department (LFD), who had to pull two people from the car that was hit by the semi-truck. They were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Who’s Responsible For Injuries When There’s More Than One Car Involved in an Accident?
There’s not a lot of good news when there’s more than one car involved in your accident. This usually means much greater points of impact and more chances at being injured. But one of the good things about it is that it also gives you more options to recover damages.
But before you can get to that point, you have to figure out who’s responsible for causing the accident and your injuries. And regardless of how many vehicles are involved, this is going to depend on “negligence.”
This means that whoever failed in their duty to drive in a safe way is going to be primarily responsible, but when there’s multiple drivers involved, it makes things a bit more complicated. Basically, anyone that could be liable in a normal car accident can be just as liable in multi-car accidents. Most of the time, this is going to fall on:
- Other drivers
- Pedestrians or cyclists
- Truck drivers
- Trucking companies
- Local government agencies
- Vehicle or parts manufacturers
